Rectangular to double round headlight conversion

Postby vauxhallbitz » Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:26 pm

Can anyone help with this?

When converting from rectangular to double round headlights on the HC model do you have to get the wiring loom which goes from the bulkhead connecter to the lights.

Does this just plug in to the bulkhead connector without any modifications? (It's rarely that simple!!)

Lastly does anyone have one for sale.

Thanks

I used lights from a Ford Capri when I did mine and Im sure I just took the first foot of wiring from each side while I was at the breakers yard and joined it to the Vauxhall loom.
My way was probably easier because the sidelights are in the headlight unit on the ford and not in the indicator unit like the viva.

On the back twin lights of the GLS Vauxhall simply made a patch from the connector on the loom to go to each of the lights. However, the GLS sidelights are next to the indicators, so you will either have to do as Simon suggests and use Capri headlamps so as to bring the side light back up to headlamp level, or fit duel indicator sidelamps from the GLS/magnum.

If you do the later, it's just some advice, but solder an earth wire to the bulb connectors of the side lamps and indicators and run it to the body or the lighting earth wire... The units only normally pick up earth via the fixings, and the slightest bit of corrosion or dirt will prevent the units from working properly, if at all.
