Offset dizzy

Postby steff » Fri Apr 09, 2010 6:29 pm

Hi all

Looking for a bit of advice, had some misfire on my 1159 HC narrowed it down to no spark from no. 2 plug. Swapped the dizzy cap, plug and lead, but still no spark!

Noticed the centre spline on the dizzy seems to have a bit of play and moves from side to side.

Could this be the problem? Is it a known fault?

Cheers

Hi Steff

The distributor would have to be pretty badly worn to cause a miss-fire on just one cylinder.
Check that the lobes on the shaft are not badly worn. Turn the engine by hand slowly and look to see if the points are opening and closing about the same distance for each lobe. Set the dizzy to the lobe for no.2 cylinder and see if you can move the shaft sideways enough to close the points if you can't the dizzy is ok.

cheers Tim

Sourced a brand new dizzy cap and that seems to have sorted it. But the engine is no "huntin" a bit suspect its drawin air at the inlet manifold.

But hey thats Viva's, another night in the garage tomorrow :D
