Viva radios??

Postby steve_1984 » Fri Aug 12, 2011 1:12 pm

My HC doesnt have one and i'd like to fit one without butchering the interior, did they have a centre console for them or what?

Any pics of the standard ones would be cool, cheers.

You can still get radio pods from Halfords... Assuming you don't want anything too fancy and are happy with something with a standard DIN E Fit. The pod will then just screw to the slanted dash under the temp controls for the heater... Note, a live can then simply be spliced from the cigarettle lighter feed (If the car ain't got a cigarettle lighter, the wire will still be there)

If you don't wanna hack the interior door panels for speakers, might I recommend you consider mounting them under the dash above the footwells. You need to be a contorsionist to do it, but it can be done, and it hides them quite nicely. Suggest small pod speaker for the rear parcel shelf, otherwise you have a lot of hacking to do.

Hope this helps
Dan

Thanks for the reply, had a look in halfords but couldn't find a radio pod so I think i'll make one up myself.

I'm guessing under the parcel shelf will be all metal? Tbh i'll just be happy to get some music in there with a couple of speakers, can always worry about adding more later on.

ooohh i like that! much better than what I would knock up! might have to keep searching till i find one.

Mines got four holes there where it must have had one before but no sign of wires or speaker holes. Got the feed and earth in place, just waiting for my iso adapter in the post and I can get some music in there.

Did yours already have an aerial? Mine doesn't and i'm trying to think of an alternative to save a wing mounted one, do you know if they still do those ones that are just wire that you can run up the side of the windscreen??

Mine did along with an awful 80's install. I think I've seen those ariels somewhere, don't know how good they are. Otherwise maybe somewhere does a mag mount or gutter clip one?

Your four holes could be from a period radio with one speaker below integrated in the plastic housing. My red one had one, not sure if it was the factory option or not but was certainly period.

I used to have mine in the small cubbyhole to the right of the steering column, stopped my mates from messing with the radio as well.

Halfords still list under-dash mounting pods on the web site: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165626
