HC Heater

Postby mazzo » Fri May 31, 2013 5:44 pm

Does anyone know if the resistor can be replaced easily on these? It gets incredibly hot and smokes.

Also, is the fabric tube that surrounds it asbestos or some other heat resistant woven stuff I don't know about?

I haven't done it myself, but I can't imagine it would be anything different to the resistor on any other car - it just drops the voltage to make the fan spin slower. I did swap the one on my old Audi coupe when the first winding failed, though I got one from another car of the same make.

Not sure about the sleeve, sorry.

Thanks. Yes, I was hoping that was the answer. Had a few burn out on different Vivas over the years but never replaced one. Also I've never seen them with this cloth sleeve on either, normally they've been green and clearly a wire-wound thing.
