Standard hb Head light switch reliable ?

Postby yoeddynz » Sun Nov 13, 2016 7:46 pm

Are the standard switches reliable ? Do they burn out ?
Reason I ask is that in redoing all the wiring in my first hb I included relays and beefier wiring for possible high wattage bulbs.

However in viva wagon I was just going to keep the wattage at 55/60 halogen so I figure no reason to change things.
I know from my various chevettes I've owned that they can burn out the headlight switch but the hb switch seems a nicer more robust design so I'm hoping they are not known for faults ?

Relay is not too hard to incorporate. So if you don't have a spare switch it might be a good idea to protect the one you've got.

Never had a problem with the HB switches. Later HC cars with 4 headlights can burn the switch out.

Cool. Ive got some spare switches so I'll save the relays for another day.

Yeah the relays are easy enough to fit in but extra work, wire, hassle on top of an already well over date 'quick resto job' means I'll keep it simple :D

I vote for relays - not a lot of work, and, while not strictly necessary I figure pretty much any mod for safety is worth it - especially when it is easy and cheap.
