Cleaning Vinyl

Postby oli8925 » Sat Jul 17, 2010 2:23 pm

Hi,

What's the best stuff to use to clean up old vinyl? Mine has black dirt and grease stuck in the creases and autoglym vinyl cleaner is doing nothing.

Thanks,
Oli

I would use a household spray ( but maybe something without bleach..) and a nailbrush to get into the 'grain' .

I've been using an old toothbrush, some tissue/kitchen paper, and believe it or not, screen wash. Seems to have worked so far :)

Sorry, I've only just seen this thread. I found a fantastic vinyl cleaner some time ago that I can share with you all. And this is not even marketed or sold as a vinyl cleaner............
Carpride, is a real cheapy range of car aerosols, mostly available in discount shops for £1 - £1.20 etc. Have seen them in poundland, & QD. Most of the aeros in this range are hopeless..... the tyre shine is especially useless! But the "wheel clean" is amazing stuff. Its a Spray foam, put it on wheels AND tyres, leave it a while and the tyres go brown as the dirt is lifted, and you just scrub with brush then wash off. I also use this stuff on anything that needs cleaning, under engine bay, and even vinyl. Yes, spray it on your seats, door cards etc, scrub it into grain with brush, and see it lift off the dirt, wash off. You will be amazed at what this stuff can do................ Go try.

Hi
just a word of caution, most wheel cleaners are actually acidic in nature - just do a test 1st on a bit of trim that does not matter. The acid is what strips the oxide of the rubber on the tires, and is good at getting through old brake dust as well. Will possibly damage alloys and highly polished materials..... BUT if it works, then good call Adrian!

Tip from a friend who's a valeter: Just tried this on our new HA, and it works a treat. Get the cheapest shaving foam you can find (got some for 99p in our local cheapy shop). Spray on to the seats and work in well with a nailbrush. Go and have a cup of tea. Come back with a bowl of clean water, and a cloth, and rinse off 40 years of dirt! Works brilliantly.. if I can work out how to post pics I'll show you the evidence!
