HC bonnet repair

Postby tynelord1969 » Sat Jan 15, 2011 10:11 am

Hi. Does anyone have a spare old bonnet that has good sections where the bonnet hinges bolt onto? A cowboy garage wrecked my good bonnet and got a 2nd hand replacement. Unfortunately the offside hinge mounting area is badly corroded and i think the best remedy would be to let in a section from a scrap bonnet. Thanks ( Leon)

I can't picture it, is it a particularly difficult section to fabricate from scratch? As I recall it, it's a common place to go so you might be better off just using new metal with a couple of captive nuts in the correct location.

Sorry for the hi-jack... But i really need to vent..

I drove my beautifully, just panelled and painted, two door saloon home today. Got onto the motorway, just got up to motorway speed. Then bang. The bonnet flew up on the hinges and peeled itself backward like a banana. (insert multiple swear words here  insert a few more) Not happy...

Anyone in Auckland with a HC bonnet let me know

Thanks for your time, i do kind of feel better now, but it could be the Jack Daniels though...
