Cracked Dashboard

Postby Sussex Viva » Thu Jun 21, 2012 4:47 pm

Hi all

I left my car for a mot ( which she passed) and when I went to pick her up the top of the dash board had cracked. I don,t normally leave it in the sun if I can help it.

Any way does anyone know how I can repair this or if there is any way of getting a replacement. Or does anyone know of anywhere to get it repaired?

I was so pleased about the mot but then gutted when I saw the dash top.

I will appreciate any help.

Regards Gary

A long time ago I read that it is possible to remove the PVC coating from the sponge liner and replace with new but I wouldn't have a clue how its done properly.

the removal of the cover from the sponge liner would be a nightmare, they are normally made with a vacuum formed skin, which is placed in a mould, with the steel subframe fitted into position via a jig, and a core for the mould or a vacuum plastic liner fitted and then injected with 2 pack expanding foam, the foam is used as an adhesive to bond the components together, if it had done its job, it will be well and truly stuck to the cover, and should destroy the foam core when removed

You could be right but like I said its just what I read a long time ago and it was on one of the Viva websites. Perhaphs a better way then would be to repair the crack and then recover or bond new PVC over the old dash.

I'm quite suprised after seeing what good or NOS dash pads sell for someone hasn't offered some form of recovering service.

Seem to remember you used to be able to get a sort of filler for repairs like this, maybe try Woolies.

Thanks for all your advice.

If I could get another one I think it would be the best option but I seem to be coming against a blank.

I will keep trying.
