A cautionary tale and request

Postby rizzo » Wed Feb 26, 2014 7:26 pm

Hey chaps, had the HB in the garage for is MOT after being stood for 12 years, thought id just let it fail and see the results, brakes, track rod end and washers, pretty good really, so parts in hand carried out all the repairs and taxed it online yesterday after receiving a pass cert.
Thought id leave it at the garage until i could get a lift to bring it home, as this is where i work its not a problem.
Now one thing with the HB i was well aware of was the door hinge pins were worn and the door had dropped, not a problem an easy fix for me and as i knew the problem i was always sure to close it properly, (can you guess whats coming?)
Went into work today and the viva had been moved, thats not a problem as it has to be moved now and again, unfortunately the door was not properly shut while it was being reversed out and swung open, this is the result

after doing some reshaping i got it to fit, but its knackered, so the moral is to sort out your worn door hinge pins before you get caught out, and the request is for a replacement door as good as possible please, will be going to spares day so can collect, or what have you got and where are you, also got good selection of spares so could deal.

That's not too bad, some of the paintless dent removal guys could sort most of that out, especially since they don't need to worry about damaging the paint!

How did the A pillar / hinge panel survive?

Well it looks ok but i wont know how bad it is until i get another door, the door is well back but i think its because the hinge mounts on the door have taken the brunt.
