Rear coupe windows

Postby gazpman » Fri Jun 13, 2014 5:50 pm

Probably a quick answer for someone.

How do the rear windows come out in the HC Coupe? I've undone the 2 screws at the front.

Thanks in advance
Gary

Once the screws are out (or rivets on some years, I believe), it's like any other window in a rubber. The way I did it was to very carefully fold the inside edge of the rubber back on itself and periodically push the glass outwards, very carefully. Once you've done enough of the edge that way you can start to flick bits of the rubber under the panel edge, then eventually it will be freed. Take it very steadily, as it's easy to break the glass - I once broke an Audi quattro rear screen in a scrapyard by being a bit impatient.

Also worth noting that I've talked to various glass people (you know what I mean...) about removing screens this way, and they all make "tsk, tsk "noises, so would be interesting to hear what others post.

Ok cool, thanks. Just wanted to make sure there weren't any hidden clips or any cunning tips. Fingers crossed.

No clips, just take it really slowly as they're quite difficult to replace if you break one. As I recall, I started in the top corner and prised the rubber back gradually down both edges - the vertical one and the one along the top - at roughly the same rate.

If it feels like something's not right, stop and have a look, don't just press on.

When they go back in, put the trim back in the rubber first, don't try to get it in afterwards - I wasn't able to, and had to pop the windows again.

That's right, the trim goes in first, impossible afterwards.
