Bulkhead panel

Postby vauxhallbitz » Mon Feb 15, 2016 9:43 pm

Having removed the bulkhead cover to get access to the heater Bowden cables I have decided to paint the panel before refitting it, what finish is original, is it matt, satin or gloss black?

At present mine has been brush painted so it is impossible to tell.

Hi,mine was covered in a sound deadening felt but the paint underneath was gloss black. I believe it to be the original finish but couldn't say 100%.
Regards, Dave.

Original Viva and Firenza was gloss black, however, there are reports that the HP Firenza (Droop Snoot) was painted in matt black to match the rest of the engine bay.

If you put primer under the gloss it's no longer original... Vauxhall missed out that stage in the painting process :D

My understanding is that the HPF had a sound deadening covering over the bulkhead panel-no paint to see! :?

Yes, correct the HPF was fitted with the sound deadening felt as standard, but that was stuck on after the metal panel was ffitted. The black engine bay paint was applied before the engine was fitted but was it applied after the heater plemun shroud, to give it it's correct name, was fitted or after. That is the debate.... The engine bay was certainly painted before the sound deadening was fitted.
