Roll over jig

I am wondering whether a roll over jig will help with body/shell repairs on the magnum. Are there any massive disadvantages to using one and can anyone reccomend a good one for the job?

They are indispensable. Fred Dukes has a friend who makes really good ones which can be tailor made for the HC range. I made mine out of scrap 3x2 timber joists and some old hand railing. Sold it afterwards for £40.

Yes, I'd very much agree that they are useful.

There are two main kinds. One type is like the one David made, and I sourced second-hand from eBay, and they attach to the bumper mountings. I believe these are suitable only for a bare bodyshell, and of course it needs to be in solid enough condition that when you lift it on the two extreme ends, it won't distort. Using one of these with different shells is just down to altering the mounting points to suit each shell. Mine came from eBay and was used previously for a Ford Escort, but it wasn't difficult to alter the mountings for a HC shell.

The other type mounts onto the hubs, and is intended to roll a complete car. I've never been quite sure on those how you deal with fluids in the engine, gearbox and rear axle, but I imagine others have solved those issues. The hub-mounted one of course means that if you wanted to work on a shell that has no front or rear axle, you'd need to make some kind of adapter or temporarily re-fit those parts, so perhaps less useful if you're intending to weld where the suspension mountings are.

I have never used one, but after I have finished my HB I have an HC lined up to work on. I fully intend to use one for the HC because it must make it substantially easier.

It must be worth it just for the hours spent removing under seal!

I think I was sold before I asked the question but you chaps have confirmed my decision. Youve also pointed me to Fred. I have a list of things I need to ask him for!!
