Fuel filler rubber specs

Hi all,

Following discovery of a leak from the rubber seal joining the fuel filler and the tank on my '71 Firenza, I'm wondering if it's as simple to fix as replacing with a new section of rubber hose of correct bore and appropriate clamps, or is it more specialised than that?!

It's the red rubber, as pictured in this ebay sale photo (not my pic)...

Any advice welcome! Thanks in advance

I did have a stock of replacement ethanol fuel safe silicone hose. It's an odd imperial size and had to be specially ordered in. Unfortunately I don't have any left. I'll check the price of a new batch and get back to you.

If you are a paid up member you can view this thread.

The price quoted may no longer be valid, I'd need to check.

Yes, the bore is a weird one, and you need to keep in mind that once you have the tank above something like half full, fuel will sit in that pipe all the time. So a bit of pipe suitable for pouring fuel through might not be suitable - I talked to someone age ago about a section of suitably-sized pipe from a different vehicle, but as theirs sat just behind the filler hole way above the tank, it wasn't intended to have fuel in it all the time.

Thanks both, for the information!

I'd be very interested if you could source some modern silicone equivalent of correct bore. Unfortunately I cannot view that old thread as my membership lapsed towards the end of last year.

Yes I had just filled the whole tank when I discovered the contents slowly dribbling back onto the garage forecourt! Luckily I wasn't far from home and dashed back where I was able to stem the flow by tightening the clamp a little. Rubber is definitely shot though and want to replace before it starts leaking again!
