Hi Guy's,
My HC estate has rotten sills, i am finding it hard to find any manufactured replacements, does anyone know if sills from a different make could be made to fit ? ..... ie escort, cotina etc

Thanks in advance, Jacko

I know Ex-pressed Steel were looking at doing sills, but I don't know how far along they've got.

How much of the sill needs replacing, in terms of the shape of it? If the top step is good and it's just the curved bit and the lip below it, it would probably be as easy to get a flat bit of steel and bend it as it would be to try to adapt something from a different car, and a lot cheaper.

The only complex part along that section is the front edge of the rear wheelarch if you're also including the bottom of the rear quarter as the sill, and Ex-pressed do wheelarches to fix that section. The shape is the same as the sill, and would be even easier to make as it's shorter.

There’s one on eBay although a bit pricey:

Also may be worth contacting petespanels on eBay as he may have some and will most likely be cheaper. I’m sure I bought some from him a while back.

That's putting it mildly. £100 for a cover sill, plus £38 postage? And then you have to do something about the join at the back of the door being missing.

How much of the sill is bad? That is, is the step along the bottom of the door gone, or is that OK and it's just the main curved bit and the flange across the bottom? And over what length? The estate would have a sill panel roughly the length of the flat piece along the bottom of the door, and the bottom section of the rear quarter is a separate thing. Neither are complex shapes, until you get to the wheelarch which is available separately.

I thought Magard Sport had given them an order for 10? When mike from Expressed Panels spoke to me he was looking for a min order for 10 - they are intent on making full sills with A and B pillar bottoms included - like the GM original full sills - think these were around £165 each - and from the tooling he could do a cover sill for £95? So based on those figures maybe £100 is not much more expensive - having said that the ebay seller is known for wanting top dollar  - he obviously does not want to post it - you can get courier price down from £38 :o

As far as I know, it'd be easier to adapt a flat piece of steel into a sill than to adapt a sill from something else.

I keep asking how much of the sill needs replacing because I was going to offer to make a section for you.

Sorry droopsnoot .....i wasn't ignoring you i i was just getting carried away with getting a complete one !!!! ...... i would think i need a complete sill as the part that you can see when you poke it with a big screwdriver just goes through....... then when you open the doors there is slight rot on the top doorstep part.

What is classed as a cover sill ???

thanks, Harry
