well there's still some metal there but seeing that i dont have a welder anywhere on hand i cant do much about it.. till i get it back to the states.. I just want to get the engine running right now its not even doing that and i only have just over 2 months to get some stuff done on it I need to be able to at least drive it to the shipping point 3 miles down the road to get it over to the states where i can then trailer it home.. i really don't want to have to tow it to the shipping port.

unless its completly seized , you shouldnt have much trouble getting it going - even if its rough it should make the 3 miles :D
Cant say that crossing the pond will do much to help the bodywork , i live on the coast and it only takes a slight sea breeze to set it off rusting again

Thought i'd update this thread rather than start a new one .
Just fitted an 1800 axle to try an improve top end cruising :D , completely derusted /painted , fitted new bearings /cylynders/adjusters , beefed up the handbrake mechanism bracket , fitted 3 way brake pipe connector (so i can bleed both rears). luckily , the purpose made prop (previously fitted to the 1256 axle) fits ok :D - Just waiting for some new brake shoes and cables from Paul C to finish it off .

Finaly got round to fitting the new rear spoiler - although new, it didnt fit that well , the fit at the lower edge (at bootlock section) was perfect with no gaps all along , however the top edge fit was not good  - the outer sections seemed to curve upwards from the bootlid and the gap got bigger as it went ! - could get my fingers in the gaps at the edge of lid/ wing
As i didnt want to "blend it " into the lid , the only option was to cut the top bits of the end sections then reglass them so that the leading edge was tight to the lid .

Lower edge - perfect fit!
Image

Decided to replace the existing captive bolts with stainless steel/ and s/s plate - might as well whilst theres a dirty great big gap in the spoiler
Image

The other side
Image

Glassed the new captive nuts in place and also formed a new base to the curve of the lid - this was later trimmed back so that the leading edge of the spoiler could be fitted.

Further pics to follow when i sort out the file size - may have to retake pics with a lower res.

Eventually managed to load up some more pics , took a lot of work to get the rear spoiler fitting tight to boot lid.
Also completely derusted the bumper / removed chrome and sprayed that white to match the car - fitted with new rubber strip as well :D

Re: Update - viva rear end - new lid /electric lock

Postby Jon-HPF » Sun May 16, 2010 8:55 pm

Had a better bootlid lying around - and that was next on my list of jobs to do! Wanted to do away with the locking barrel and rig up an electric solenoid / switch in car . Also modded an escort 4/5 tailgate latch to fit.

Modded latch
[Hosted_Picture]Image[/Hosted_Picture]

[Hosted_Picture]Image[/Hosted_Picture]

Slight mod to lid (elongate the hole and drill new locating holes - the bolt in the centre fits exactly where the barrel locating pin used to fit) Also centred it up as the originals are off centre :|
[Hosted_Picture]Image[/Hosted_Picture]

Cut up the old strike pin and welded to a bracket that was then fixed in place
[Hosted_Picture]Image[/Hosted_Picture]

Luckily my rear seats fold down - cos this is where i got into the boot to align the catch/ pin . Still cant get a perfect shut though - must be the new boot seal rubber ? will look at a different type cos i think it may be too big .

Welded up the badge and barrel holes / filled .

Finished article :D
