Good work going on there, car's coming together really well .

You seem to have steady, thoughtful approach to the job - good stuff.

I bought some Bilt Hamber zinc primer after reading about it on this forum - might even have been your good self that was raving about it ? ? Anyway, found it to be pretty good gear so far

Thanks Coggers , probably was me regarding Bilt Hamber's products - i have found them to do what they say on the tin!
There's been a fair bit of thought before i tackle a job (and lots of coffee and cigs) .
Many of the mods i have done are mainly to do with trying to eliminate potential rust probs and also for ease of removal etc .
Pity the same ideas were not implemented when they ere built, but i suppose they were , after all, built to price (a low one at that)
cheers - jon

Nose cone had 2 coats of spray putty then 3 coats of white hi build primer then 2 coats grey hi build primer,
Image

New old stock front bumper blade , this will have plenty of wax squirted into the steel tubing :D
Image

Wet flatted with p280 then p400 then p600.
Image

cut out some headlight covers out of 4mm clear perspex , made sure to cut smaller than the opening cos the edges to be finished in rubber.
Image

Used this product to edge the perspex , they are meant for door edge protection but fit the 4mm perspex perfectly , 2 boxes needed to do the 2 perspex units , with a bit spare just in case you cut the mitres in the corners badly
Image

Both perspex units in place - next step is to make the retaining clips!
Image

Saved this crappy steel table ? from a skip , the curve on the edges match the curve of the rubber strips - so this will be used to make the retaining clips

Excellent - love the perspex/rubber trim trick , great stuff.

Embarrassingly enough , I did actually bin a nosecone back in the early nineties ... along with an HS front and rear bumper...

(Yes I know , take me outside and flog me to death with a rolled up copy of Droopsnoot Noos...)

Great progress , inspiring stuff. 8)

Thanks Guys, its nearly there ! - Ive been saying that for weeks , but as ive got it booked into a garage this Saturday for a full engine tune up , i have to get it done

All 4 clips in place.
Image

countersunk bolts in top of nosecone , i blanked off the 4 original holes used to retain the lightbox.
Image

Again - new holes for the clip bolts , and blanked off the 4 original lightbox holes.
Image

Slight cut outs in top and bottom of light boxes to allow the clips to slip into place.

Image

All fits nice and snug :D

Sponge tape in place , it only has adesive on one side so im not expecting a water tight fit :( , but at least it hides the holes cut out in the lightboxes to accept the clips :D
Image

Perspex units in place along with plastic indicator/side light units and new lenses. Decided to paint the air intake section satin black . I think some of the chevettes and early cavaliers were painted like this.
