Best place to buy a starter motor for a viva hc 1300(1977)

Postby Viva La Viva » Tue Mar 28, 2017 3:09 pm

As title really I'm looking for a starter motor for my 1977 viva hc 1300 ,the starter that came off of mine is a Lucas m325j/1.
I'm just looking for advice on the best place/places to buy one from (happy with new or secondhand).

Any help is much appreciated.

I got a reconditioned (as new) starter locally for £20, it has sat on the old boys shefl for a while!

I believe the Metro, Allegro, Mini and others are all the same fitment if that broadens anyones search options.

Cheers

The ones fitted to the BMC A Series engine are the same bolt pattern and length but some of them had a different pinion with either more or fewer teeth than the Viva one. So you need to compare the pinions before fitting. They all will seem to work but will damage the pinion and the starter ring on the flywheel over time.

I did wonder. If the teeth count matches all good to go? And are the pinions interchangeable?

Pinions are interchangeable AFIK.

Was the pinion tooth count the same as the original or did the pinion need swapped over?
