and finally, for tonight - rear anti sway bar

Postby jpsmit » Sun Oct 15, 2017 12:30 am

I can't tell you how much room there is all of a sudden in the shop and things get hung on the car - astonishing!

Once the shocks are on, the last thing is the anti sway bar - In my books and on one bar that I do have, the bar is attached to the axle by a strap with metal at each end. In the picture though it is (I presume) the same part but in metal.

1. am I correct that this is what it is? and

2. If so, what to do? strap or metal?

I so apppreciate this forum, I would be cooked without it!

BTW one of the most interesting parts of this story is that since that body of the car is an SL shell, these parts are actually going on for the very first time ever! fun.

Looks like you've got one bit missing, there should be 2 of those short straps which bolt on to the 'drop link' strap. There's also a plate that fits inside the boot (trunk) where the top mount bolts through.....that makes 2 bits missing.

I've got them - just not in the pic - so, I should be good to go?

Well dang. :? did I mention the shell started out life as an SL?

Of course it did, which means no bolts for the top of the anti sway bar.

So, could you please take a couple more pictures and maybe a measurement or two to help me locate the spot for the tops? thanks!

And thanks for these pics!

Here's a photo of the inside of my boot (trunk) during the build up. The black plates with two bolts each are the top mounts. I don't think that the exact locaation is too critical but they do need to be parrallel to the centreline of the car.

That is helpful! thanks - so, it appears to be bolted to the sheet metal and not the "frame" would that make sense?

Correct, just outboard of the chassis member and tucked into the corner of the rear wheel tub. You can see the location in this photo.

Looking from below and from the back to the front on the UK driver's side.

It might be worth moving the driver's side one out as far as possible to give as much clearance for the exhaust as possible. Mine could move out about 5/8" and that would stop an annoying rattle that occassionally happens on the exit to fast roundabouts.
