Rear Wheel Cylinder

Postby Icedmunkie » Wed Apr 11, 2018 9:25 pm

Hi,
Hoping someone can help? I have Lockheed rear brakes on the back of the Firenza. Originally 1256 but put what I believe to be an 1800 axle on the rear but I can't find any cylinders. The diameter of the whole in the back plate where the cylinder bolts onto is 22mm internal diameter

Thanks Chris

1256 cylinders will be OK 19mm bore pistons. Fit as a matched pair. Fred has them in the spares scheme.

I think your problem is that you talk about "bolting on" the cylinders where in fact they fit to the backplate on a shank that goes through the hole in the backplate with a retaining circlip.
Send me a picture of the back of the existing cylinder and we should sort it out.

Looks like an Opel backplate....Chevette, Manta, Ascona...but I don't think it is..... Have you got the axle fitted to the car?
Here's a Chevette cylinder

I would but I don't have a cylinder as it never came with any. It is fitted to the car. I had to change the arms as it had the original 1255 axle on it but I was told this is an 1800 axle but can't remember where I got it from

That is the position fr the manual adjuster on girling brakes.........if so you dont have a normal wheelcylinder on the other side as the girling cylinder slides in a"slot"
Pictures of the actual axle will tell if it is a 1800 or 1256 axle.
