Distributor locating pin

Postby vauxhallbitz » Sat May 19, 2018 11:28 pm

A bit of a strange one but here goes, my car is fitted with a Ford Fiesta distributor which has a home made locating pin which goes into the drive in the engine. I believe that there are two types, one central and one offset to one side.

I intend to fit an original distributor with electronic ignition but the one I have is offset and I need a central one, my question is, can you buy these individually?

No... You could probably pick up a centred dizzy from somewhere though. They are common enough. Just check for play in the shaft. If it's solid, just swap the bits out and good to go.
Sometimes, I wonder why I bother, and then for one fleeting moment things will go right for a change.

Thanks guys, mine is brand new so I think the best thing is to try and get a second hand unit and change the end.

Change the end?

It's a solid shaft. You might be able to swap that out, if you are careful with the bearing, but just swapping the end I'm pretty sure is not possible.

I thought that removing the pin would release the end, I may be wrong but the one in my car just now has a home made end fitted to it and the pin can be removed, we will see what happens.....Thanks for the advice.

The pin releases the SHAFT, so that it can be lifted from the dizzy body... I thought. It's been a while since I looked at one of the smaller dizzys.

Why don't you just buy a centre drive dizzy off the club - if your off set is brand new we could do an exchange for the price of postage?
