Copper Brake Lines

Postby Andrew Morris » Sun May 27, 2018 7:11 pm

What are the thread sizes for a set of front copper brake lines. Disc Brakes, where the line starts from the caliper to where it joins the rubber hose at the front discs. Seem to be solving one problem and then running into the next. In summary need a pair of 12" copper brake lines and cant seem to get any here locally

Its one female and one male union at either end.

Thanks for any help.

They are 3/8th UNF x 24 tpi, the male ones are long and the pipe is 3/16" and not 6mm.

You should consider Kunifer (cupro nickle) pipe and brass fittings instead of copper and steel fittings. I don't like copper as it work hardens and fractures. Copper is OK if it is properly supported but if there is any movement at all then there could be problems. The sliding cylinder on the rear brakes of Morris Minors is a prime example of where NOT to use copper pipes as are the long unsupported pipes from the master cylinder of Vivas. However, the short pipes you are looking for probably will be OK in copper but consider Kunifer as a first preference.

If I had the fittings and pipe I could make you a pair.

Just checked, I have enough Kunifer pipe but only zinc plated steel fittings if that's any good.

Yes, I have a flaring tool and can 'mushroom' the ends. I'll need the overall length, end of pipe to end of pipe.

What a beautiful day to be making brake pipes in the garden.
