Spigot bush 1256 ohv

Postby Mike Attew » Sat Sep 22, 2018 3:03 pm

Are there any suppliers for a Spigot Bush for a 1256 ohv engine? I have measured mine which has wear marks but may be able to reuse it.
OD 0.778"
ID 0.593"
L 0.538"
I don't know the original spec though.

I'm sure I remember someone on here turning some up a while back. Aren't they a phosphor-bronze bush, rather than a roller bearing like the OHC engines have?

Yeah, I read the post about them. 2009. They are a bush. Mine looks like it's been spinning in the crank

If it's OK on the input shaft and was spinning in the crank then a little bit of RTV silicone on the bush when you're assembling clutch and gearbox should hold it in place and still leave it easily enough removed at a later date if it need replaced further down the line.

Sounds like a good idea as bush is still a good fit, it will stop it spinning.
Thanks.

Just for information I found an Oilite bush OB152015 has the correct bore size and is approximately 0.006" over size on the od so is easily altered to fit.

Oilite are quite handy - I rebuilt my pedal box with some that were almost a perfect fit, just needed a little taking off the T-section to make them fit. Very cheap, too.

The above mentioned bush is available from Bearing Boys at a very reasonable price, £1.69 ex VAT and P+P. As already mentioned, all that is required is to have the outer diameter turned down to 0.7825 " or 19.88mm. I have used these bearings on both of my HC's with no problems.

A little searching on this forum has dug up 1256 OHV spigot bearing specs posted by a member quite some years ago.

Outer Diameter = 0.7825 " or 19.88mm
Inner Diameter = 0.5950 " or 15.11mm
Length = 0.5315 " or 13.50mm

Inner diameter has a 45' lead in chamfer, length 0.0350" or 0.89mm
Outer diameter has 45' lead in chamfer, length 0.0275" or 0.7mm
