Timing chain cover

I am rebuilding a 1256 engine at the moment but having a bit trouble fitting the timing chain cover. It appears to be fouling the rubber bung which holds in the timing chain tensioner. This means it rocks from side to side but will not go on straight. I have tried pushing the bung in but it will not go in any further.

If you remove the bung it fits perfectly, any ideas............?

That is how it should be unless it is a very large gap then......The cover should push the rubber pad and then keep the tensioner in place.

Hello Stefan,

Thank you for your reply. I think that the gap is too big for the gasket to take up but will give it a try. You can rock the cover from side to side but when it is straight on I think the gap is too big.

Regards, Fraser.
