Tire pressure for Viva HA 1965

Hello,

Would anyone know what is the recommended pressure for the front and rear tires (modern, I suppose radial but not cross ply) of a Vauxhall Viva HA ?

Until now, I have put 2 bar in front and rear but I recently found information that it should be 1,5 bar in front and 1,8 bar at the rear.

I would be interested to know your opinion and experience about this.

Thank you for your attention.

Hubert64.

Officially, I think, it's 18 psi front 20 psi rear if I remember, but I equal them out at 20 psi front and back.
1.8 bar is probably a bit too high for the rears!, that equates to 26.1!!
1.5 equates to 21.6, so maybe 1.4 which is 20.31.

Depends on what tyres you have, where you are driving of course, and what sort of roads and speeds you intend to drive!!

I will check my manual tomorrow for the official figures.

If you have radials it is not that important. You can use anything between 1.6-2.0 bar . 2.0 is the most common pressure on any car with "normal" tyres but if the ride is smoother with less pressure you can try go lower a bit but if no difference it is no benefits.

I've checked my HA handbook this morning, bearing in mind it's 50 years old and talking about cross ply's. It says 18 psi front and 22 rear, changing to 22 front and 26 rear for prolonged driving and heavy loads.
So modern radials would probably be alright at 22 all round, depends how you feel when driving and tyre wear. Over inflated feels too light on the steering and gives a wear pattern in the centre, and is likely to blow at high speeds!! Under inflated feels heavy and wallowing.
