OHV engine rear crankcase to sump seal

I have taken the sump off a 1159cc engine and found that rather than the piece of cork that you get in most sump gasket sets there is a neoprene rubber half circle with tabs - see photo - seems a much better implementation.

I also noted that the sump gasket was made of a cork and aluminium sandwich - part of a more expensive sump gasket set I assume.
Does anyone have any background to this?
I will see if my gasket man has a source of the neoprene rubber part.

I have the rubber/neoprene seal on the OHC engine. It is from a 6 cylinder chevy

just checked 1967 Chevelle 230ci 6 cylinder and a million other chevys, studebaker and even Checker.

Part number FEL-PRO BS13241 {#3792463} from Rockauto.

I have the instructions somewhere which I thought came form this very site.

Yes, but Fred's talking about an OHV engine, rather than the OHC one.

I saw that but we have to start the conversation somewhere. (besides everything leads to GTs anyway  )
