Probably best to check the timing, then do a compression test if that's ok

Hi
Thanks compression is all good the engine was fully reconditioned not long ago the timing is spot on I rechecked that tonight with the strob light but if you advance the timing a lot it runs a lot better.

Check the carb diaphragm. The minutest of pin holes can cause all sorts of problems. Also the pin end of the needle can get damaged where it goes in to the jet, or maybe there is muck in the jet. Dash pot needs topping up with oil as well. Stroms are normally pretty good I found.

What kind of condition is the servo pipe in? A tiny leak in there could cause trouble too. I had an MOT fail on high CO emissions on my Firenza, took the carbs off the manifold to replace the gaskets between them, and it wasn't until I was putting it all back together that I noticed the hole in the servo pipe.
