Does Imp windscreen seal fit a HB?

Postby MattHC1600SL » Tue Jul 11, 2006 10:50 pm

I heard somewhere that Imp rubbers fit an HA, not sure about an HB. An Imp windscreen aperture looks a lot smaller tha an HB one to me. Matt.

Does Imp windscreen seal fit a HB?

Postby ADRIAN » Wed Jul 12, 2006 12:17 pm

Yes Steve, all the answers you got from members on the forum are right.  Hillman Imp rubbers fit the Viva HA saloon , (but they are a very tight squeeze). The ones I have made in the UK, are basically modified Hillman Imp rubbers, the makers made them   + 5ml longer for me,  to fit the HA better.  The HB Screens are much bigger than HA, I have to laugh at the ebay listing saying it will fit both cars.   One thing you have to ask yourself, - why would I have gone to the effort to have HB rubbers made in Australia if there was any possibility of other rubbers from another car that would fit?   There are some rumours banded around that  Mk1 Escort would fit, but these are again slightly smaller, a tight fit and they crack very quickly under the pressure,  - it really is not worth spending money on if you have to constantly keep changing it  ! ?
Also, remember our rubbers come from Australia,  -   a hot country that has a history of sun damaging the rubbers.  Our HB rubbers have the latest Australian developed anti - UV additives incorporated into the mix, so are very long lasting...........
Regards
Adrian

Escort windscreen rubber

Postby VivaPete » Fri Jan 19, 2007 3:11 pm

Hi all.
I have actually fitted a Mark 1 Escort windscreen rubber! A little tight width ways BUT does fit very well. The only give away which is quite subtle is the amount of rubber inside the screen top or bottom depending which you pull through first. I have had the rubber in a year and looks good still.
The rubber profile is identicle from the outside and for the glass and body.
Cheap and plentiful too!
