Daimler V8

Postby Tigran » Thu Aug 10, 2006 10:36 am

I have seen some come up for grabs and am intrigues. It's not too powerful for insurance, it has the v8 rumble and its very compact. Now what I have heard is that the V8 fits on viva mounts if they are reversed - is this BS? It sounds so to me. Just thought I would ask before I buy them - I will anyway but curiosity is getting the best of me.

Guess the zetec in the garden will have to go in the capri.

I can't say that I've heard of a Damlier V8 conversion before, but the main issue with any swap is the sump clearance.
I would have thought with any engine conversion, fabricated mounts would be needed.

I am toying with the idea of sticking an Omega lump from a plod car into the Firenza's bay, I know it's not an 8, but it should be a reliable unit.
All the best, Paul.

Yeah the ecotec is what i thought of first of all but then changed to the zetec route. The sump should be ok - seeing how its a RWD application in the first place. Oh well I'll try it and see I guess.

Good luck with it, the main aim is to fit a lighter unit in there than a 2.3 and sit it as far back as possible.

A rusty old white, ex-police 3.0 V6 Omega with a manual box is my plan, as the block is shorter, made of alloy and kicks out 204hp, I'll buy the complete car and take what I need, Ebay anything of value and scrap the rest.
I think that's enough for the brakes to cope with.

The Daimler V8 is a Hemi V8, Wonderful engine in good condition, but they are a bit quirky and the spares are getting had to find, and expensive. If you want a reliable and "cheap" to maintain V8, then fit a rover.... if you want an unusual engine then the Daimler is lovely, if you can maintain it.......
Good luck either way

The ones I am getting need some new liners in them - thinking that is going to be oh-so-costly. Oh well it'll be different in the end.

Well started stripping the seized V8.

'Cks sake it takes a long time! Took me the best part of 3hrs (!!) to get all the bits and bobs that aren't the heads or the sump off.

Hopefully the second one will take much less time.
