Volvo Calipers?

Has anyone fitting Volvo 4 pots to their Viva? What sort of work is involved and do they actually fit under 13" wheels?

Thanks

Hi

I tried fitting the Volvo 4 pots but the hole centres are wrong, in the end i found Princess 4 pots fitted fine and they fit under 13" steel wheels and some alloys. You can even keep you existing discs or as i did convert to vented ones of a VW. (You will also need to fit a spacer kit to the Princess callipers if you fit the vented discs.)

Hi

They are Mk2 GTi rears, they cost about £20 for a set, i choose them because they are the same size as the standard viva disc's (256mm) but vented, You have to either machine a small amount off the hub so the disks fit over the back or make the hole in the disc slightly bigger. i machined the hub because you only need to do this once..You can actually use them with standard viva calipers you just need to make a 10mm spacer up to space the calipers but this is actually easier than it sounds.
I can take some pictures if you need them of my discs on the car...I can almost stop as quick as i can go now too.....

Hi Edd

I'll second the request for photos of your vented disc conversion please!

How do they stand up to heavy use ?? Rear vented discs are usually much lighter made that the same cars fronts as the rears obviously do so much less work. I can't comment any further as I have not seen the discs to assess the amount of metal involved......, but I dare say they have to be an improvement on stock HA discs.

Cheers!

Supposedly the VW Discs you're talking about are post '89 Mk2 golf 16v front discs - 256mm vented

Hi I will do some pics and details as soon as i get back to my car,

I think the metro ones are metric so the wrong spacing for the mounting bolts but i have a set in my shed so will check.

I am pretty sure the discs are from the MK2 Golf GTi rears its quite a while since i did the conversion but again i can check.

Good idea I have some metro ones in the garage. Might give them ago tomorrow, only thing I hate about them is the bloody three bleed nipples its such a frustrating design.
