Hi all, iam looking to put a 2ltr pinto engine in my viva, would have put a v6 or v8 in but cant afford the insurance.
my question is does anyone know if the more modern ford escort rs2000 engine which is a 2ltr dohc with electronic injection would fit into a viva and is this engine different form an older pinto?
Reason iam asking is my viva is off the road while mot work is being done and thought i mite aswell buy a car with a pinto engine so iam still on the road while the work is being done on the viva.

Any thoughts???

I can tell you its a completely different engine. It is a development of the Sierra I4 DOHC 8V engine, and has the following info:
Engine: DOHC 16v, iron block, alloy cylinder head.
Bore and stroke 86,00 x 86,00 mm , 1998 cc, compression ratio 10,3:1.
Electronic fuel injection, Ford EEC IV engine managment system.
Max power 150 hp at 6000 rpm, max torque 190 Nm at 4500 rpm.
Transmission:
5-speed manual MTX75 gearbox, front wheel drive.
220mm single plate clutch.

I think you can bolt a RWD MT75 box onto to it instead of the FWD MTX75, as very similar engines were fitted to the Scorpio Granada. You will have to get a custom exhaust manifold and may have all sorts of clearance issues to deal with. Nice engine, but I would suggest you stick with a Red top 16V, same BHP, and has been done before, so there is info available.

Your call of course......

Good Luck

Just seen the other thread with the same topic....

Just be aware that the Zetec is not the same as the RS2000 FWD engine, they are completely different beasties.
There is more tuning stuff available for the Zetec, and a lots of kits/RWD conversions use them. Its all a case of what you can locate, and what you can afford.
How about a Toymota 16V - (£££) good for up to 250bhp out of the can.....
Rover T16 turbo? (£) 200bhp ish
Honda S2000 ? (££££!) 210bhp no turbo......
