LTL 327G The Build

Postby Team Gridlock » Mon Jan 21, 2013 9:03 am

Well not done much on LTL 327G since Christmas, but bought a few parts that we need, doing some investigation on which way to go, and what we want to achieve. Plans have changed several times and will definately change a lot more.

Charged up an old battery, and thought we would give it a try, turned over fine by hand. As we didnt plan on keeping the engine, we went for a fire. Turn one --- Turned over free, Turn Two ===Pulled out choke, little pump of some gas, nothing. Turn Three ----- OMG, nearly caught Turn Four ---- Caught, runs, SWEEET,

Starts on the button every time, dont know how long it was sitting but rund fine. So sweet that we have changed plans again!!! Now it going to be exterior and interior so she can be driven for the summer then Winter rebuild with new engine, chassis strengthen, axles and Front Suspension - The engine of choice, well we have a 360ci Mopar and TF727 Transmission from one of our old drag cars, or maybe a V6 Essex, even a 2.3 slant to keep it Vauxhall. Wont know until the winter,

Next stage is to move the ol girl (car not wife) to the workshop for complete new front, probably in a couple of weeks strip out interior do any remedial bodywork. Once we have moved it will start posting pics

Done a little bit this morning, removed the front bumper, lights and valance, little bit of tin worm to contend with, just clamped the new valence in place.

also put the boot on, just could not resist it. Not sure whether to use old lock, (looks in great condition with no rust or pitting) or go with a remote and keep the boot smooth.

A good day on it tomorrow and we should be well on the way. Need to fabricate (or if anyone knows where to get any) front headlight cups as they have rotted away on both side.

Not 100% sure but I think Mk1 escorts with oblong lights have Plastic bowls,----- I had a 1300E with oblong lights, It had plastic bowls, I know they work because my E had escort glass lenses with HB reflectors grafted on the back, mainly because ford reflectors rotted like hell, I suppose there is a case for using Escort backing plates for repairs too
Your front valance? GRP from who?? and wings I assume they are glass too??

If your not using the front brake drums, there was someone in the parts wanted section looking for a front drum.
