Wheel size and tyres

Postby edgoose1 » Sat Jul 15, 2017 12:43 pm

Hi. I am thinking ahead and want to put Minilite wheels on my standard HC Viva 1256. I have modified a lot of cars but plan to keep this one standard. I can always put the original wheels back on. What width rim would people sugest and tyre size ? I want to keep in the standard 13 inch

Anything from 5 to 7 J will work, but with 205 60 13 tyres on the front you will need to adjust the front valence a tad.

Original is 4J with 155x13 tyres, Rostyles are 4.5J with 155x13 or 175/70x13. You can fit 5 1/2 inch alloys with 175/70x13 with very little risk of modifications but you might have to cut the valance or bottom corner of the wing depending on the offset. Anything bigger and you will have to modify the valance and take a hammer to the bulkhead/foot well.

The Snoot Avons are 6" with 185/70 x13 but the Snoot doesn't have a steel front valance to catch on. You might get away with 6" with 185/60x13's

175/70x13's and 185/60x13's will not make any real difference to the gearing so speedo should not be affected.

Thanks yes i was thinking 175x70x13. and 5 or 5.5 j. as anything bigger is a bit heavy for the smaller engines. i liked the Minilites on my olf GT. Can not remember the size but think they were just right

Most Morris Minor specialists will stock 5x13's but the wheel nuts will be smaller so ask for a price reduction for not taking them. :goodideasign:
