If anyone is interested in this and we all should be, please ignore the header which says "you have already signed this petition" and sign as per the instructions.

I have signed this petition + the one started by CWW requesting that the Government Change the exemption of Historic Vehicles from MOT to add a requirement for a basic roadworthiness check.

Just my opinion but I will not be signing either. The government has chosen to support the classic car movement by making 40 year old cars tax and mot exempt. I work in a fleet office and the MOT system is outdated and perhaps we should be petitioning to do away with it like other countries, which only MOT when cars are sold.

Perhaps a petition that Classics which are modified should loose their MOT and Tax exemption. The idea of the benefit was to help ensure the preservation of original classic cars. It would certainly help deter the pulling to bits of our cars from standard and preserve originality. Just my thoughts.

Does the other petition interest you then Carl
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/200995
if there is no MOT for cars over 40 years old then at least they should be subject to a safety check because we all are old enough and ugly enough to know that there are those who will knowingly drive a defective car which is fine until you get into an emergency situation and there are those who will drive it because they are not capable of seeing the faults.
I for one will still take my 5 cars for a voluntary MOT type check - my MOT guy always manages to find things I have not spotted and I put mine up on the 4 poster ramp before I book it in -£175 per year is well worth a better peace of mind
