With the red one the speedo is sticking and the clock functions for about five minutes. Anyone got any spares I buy borrow or buy so I can still use the car if I send the originals off for re-furb? Also the temp gauge reads virtually nothing, anyone know which sender to get for a 2300?

Thanks

Already done that one.....

Mazda now sold and replaced with a BMW Z4 in Sterling Grey.....but it has red leather seats. :)

Anyway, the speedo will give problems and there are a number of causes, plastic wheel in the gearbox, cable, angle drive, odometer drive in the head all can cause the symptoms you describe. The clock also will give problems, your's is the early type and that can be cleaned by any good clock maker but it will give problems again in a very short time.

The clock can be removed with the dash in situ which leaves the car still useable. I may have a spare speedo head you can borrow if you don't get one. The twin dial speedo head is the same I believe.

I think I said before that the sender can get covered in corrosion in the manifold, insulating it a bit and causing false readings.

The miles are going on fine, the trip meter works but won’t click over to 100, the tenths keeps rolling though. The speedo has freed up a bit, it reads 60 when you are doing 70 and won’t go higher. I think a bit of careful lube may help but by someone who knows what they are doing. There are two Speedo’s on eBay right now, a two dial dash one with no trip meter and a HB GT one that’s flagged on the listing as that car only. I’ll grab the two dial one at about £20 then :)

did you say the sender was in the manifold and if yes does it go into a water line cos it looks like it goes in from underneath. Thanks

If it's a seven-dial dash clock, I replaced mine with a quartz movement. I've had it out recently to correct a problem where one of the hands wasn't fixed probably, but other than that it's impossible to see any difference from the front. Runs off a single AA battery, a decent one lasts about eighteen months.

I've done mine too. I chose a movement with a tick so that the second hand moves like the original. A relatively easy fix and totally reversible if you want to re fit an old movement.

Yes, the sender is in the underside of the manifold. The manifold is water heated and the sender screws into one of the waterways near the thermostat.

The speedo is not very accurate either..... I used a GPS speedo app to see what revs my car does in top at the various speed limits so that I can use the revs as a guide.

One of the guys at work his father does clock repairs. It's likely I'll go quartz with a 12v powered movement.

That's the same as mine, about 20mph/1000 revs 5500 = 110..... 8)
