Anyone know a supplier for front shocks for a 73 Viva saloon. Going around in circles with this one as the part numbers never end with a supplier. Are there alternatives e.t.c. Struggling for parts for the front running gear rebuild Tried Partco, Eutoparts, Andrew Paige they all scratch their heads.

Cheers, John

As you will know John, it's forty years since the last (proper) Viva was built in 1979. Modern car parts suppliers no longer stock anything for classic Vivas.

If you havent't already joined the VVOC it's worth doing so for access to club spares. Otherwise ebay (aka the worlds largest auto-jumble) is your best friend.

Front shocks are occasionally available from various classic Vauxhall ebay shops -

These ones are listed for HB but they're fine for HC -

Or alternatively these adjustables (at four times the price!) -

Modern parts suppliers might be able to supply brake pads, bulbs, bottom ball joints, track rod ends, fan belts (but check the length as there were lots of different ones) and NGK plugs. Forget about asking them for air filters, oil filters, points, distributor caps, rotor arms, top ball joints and rear brake shoes.

Club spares have lots of NoS parts, re-manufactured parts and second hand parts. Just recently Fred has had radiators recored, asbestos free clutch plates and brake shoes re-manufactured. It is illegal to buy, sell or fit ANY asbestos containing products, even parts that you already own! Ebay is rife with asbestos clutches and brake shoes. so beware!

Just got some NOS on ebay for £45 incl postage. Needed them as the old ones were rotten so needed to cut the top bolts and get 2 new ones at £2.30 each locally. One job on the list done.
