I watched the first few minutes from the above link, but couldn't watch any more. I hate this sort of idiotic mid-atlantic copy of an equally idiotic American TV car show format.

From the outset the presenters just spout ignorant ill-researched BS, and then the show seems to be about customising a rare classic car - something else I'm personally really not into.

Utter rubbish I'm afraid - and apart from the intensely annoying BS the trouble with these sorts of shows is that they encourage their young audience to destroy classic cars by messing them about rather than to restore them.

When they messed up the rear lights they just happened to find inside the car, where did they put the reflectors?

I thought the reflectors are a legal requirement, I've had vehicles fail MOTs in the past cos they were missing.

I've got a "cherry bomb" rear exhaust section that you could put on your Estate Marcus if you want to pimp it a bit

I've just finished watching it - it's just been on Quest again, and it's on again later this evening if anyone missed it.

It's just as I expected it would be, and the reason I don't generally watch this kind of thing. I know my price references are all in the past, but I was surprised at how much money they say they threw at it, and how little they seemed to get to show for it. The rear lights were terrible (only £65 each!), and as far as I was concerned "Frenching" involved recessing the lights into the bodywork, or at least it did when I used to buy "Street Machine".

If anyone's got an unloved Viva that they haven't been able sell, the people who watch this programme at least will be prepared to buy it for £3000 though, because that's a bargain apparently. And is that necessarily a bad thing? There's enough moaning about why is an Escort worth so much more than a Viva. Not so great if you want to buy one, of course.

And while I'm sure Carl can answer for himself, he advertised the car on here and on carandclassic in July last year, and it didn't go anywhere until he updated about a month later that it was sold to this TV company. So it's not like anyone else didn't have the chance to buy it. Not everyone can turn down buyers just because they think they'll mess the car up, whether that's for space reasons, or any other.

I got the heads up this was on from my bro, but the misses was watching something more interesting so had to wait, i switched over just as he was doing the back lights, to be honest i thought it was *Bleep* just like all these car programmes apart from Bangers and cash which im sure most of you will know about, if not google it.
The thing is this is just entertainment when all said and done, yes its generally rubbish but it gets everyone talking about it which i guess is a win win for the TV company.
There really is no point in letting it get under your skin, just gotta laugh at the whole thing and move on, personally i prefer real life programmes as i call them, im sure you know what i mean.

I think the morale to the story is dont believe what you watch on TV , at least not 100 percent. I watch Wheeler dealers etc and like to watch them but i am sure they all tell some white lies. To be honest i had never heard of Goblins garage till they rang about the Viva. Anyway it was their mechanic i dealt with who is not on the show. He did say that they was going to dirty the car to make it look like a barn fine, also that they would not throw any parts away and not modify the body work so that it could not be put back to standard. Remember when i bought the car it had flaking bronze paint a matt black bonnet and lowered by 2 inches.... Not standard and perhaps might not have survived. The show needs cars with a quick turn round. They did not modify the interior the rear lights can be put back as they did not touch ant panels wheels and exhaust easy to be put back to standard. it already had a straight though exhaust. As for wheels i sold it with new silver miniltes which they did not want as they wanted to put their own stamp on the car.So those wheels are somewhere As is said look at Street Machine etc these mods were being done 30 years ago.
I did give them some articles on Blydienstien tuning as i though they might take the twin carbs off and pretended they found them and also maybe put a high lift cam in etc yes so much they could have done to the engine. They could have put a 2.3 in or a Red Top.. No way did they spend 7k on it and also they did not pay 3k for it. And we all know this because the car is known to the club and us. I doubt the buyer was real ) and i would say the car will be up for sale in the next couple of months . Yes would be nice to see Wheeler dealers do one but there are so few cars out there now .. and this is the Problem Golblins had. It was either basket case cars or mint ones they could find when they were looking for a Viva Hopefully we will get some interest from new people at the VBOA or other shows and we can put the right about our cars ) last thought they did not even mention thos wing mirrors they put on the car..... seems they was going down one route with the car then changed their minds T

Watched this last night and (only my opinion) but the biggest load of C**p i have seen in a long time. They stated it was a rare car, then "made it cool"???
If it was that rare then why not spend £10K on recommissioning it. Looked a easy restro. And how she can keep here nails in the condition is beyond me.
