This is a little something that came up a few days ago on the Chevy Blazer group I’m with. It looks like they are planning to increase the amount of ethanol in our petrol from its current 5% to 10%. The suggestion is that most pre-2011 petrol cars would have issues, presumably with the ethanol eating away at regular rubber petrol hoses. It might also have a field day eating away at the seals in the fuel pumps and any other rubber bits in carbs, unless there are ethanol friendly alternatives fitted. Timing may have to be changed, and it’s suggested that fuel consumption will increase, a smidge. Here are a couple links that were posted on the Blazer group:

Whilst the plan is to increase it in Unleaded, Super Unleaded would not be increased. The government is aware that the higher ethanol can damage older cars hence Super Unleaded will not be changed.

As many of us use Super Unleaded as it's octane rating is far closer to the 4 star our cars were designed to run on this means nothing basically changes. My cars definitely run better on Super with no pinking or over heat issues which I had on standard unleaded.
