A silly question what is the difference between HAE & HAV what do they stand for.

Hi, Chris, Not an HA expert by any means, nor much of a fan, except for the vans, which when they cost used £40 or £50 quid a pop, I wouldn't have been seen dead in! I partly blame the TV series The Beiderbecke Affair and the actor James Bolam for that. Plus distractions such as Beetles, Imps, and Fiat 500s, not to mention mk2 Escorts and Chevettes and much more.

There are some details on-site in the Technical Details Section and further under that in the HA Overview and Chassis Numbers subsections viz. "The 6 cwt, 8 cwt and 10cwt model Vans (designated HAE, HAD and HAV respectively)" ... What the letters E, D and V actually stand for I've no idea at all.

From an old parts book I have , I found the following :

1963-1967 vin plate showed only paint, trim, model type and actual vin number.
HAS = standard saloon, HAD= De-Luxe saloon, HAH= Super luxury saloon, HAE= 6cwt Van, HAV= 8cwt van.

My vin works out as HAH20 Luton built Super luxury saloon, (its an SL) 6, which is 1966, ( D reg) and with the last six numbers the actual serial number.

Then I have 850 = Grecian white ( which it isn't actually now, but it is white!) 581= black interior trim.
The actual job number and R which I presume is for RHD. Then 274 Disc Brake option and 856 which I can't identify!!

From 1968 different vin plates were used:sixth digit represents model year i.e. 8=1968
Seventh digit is manufacturing plant V= Luton, E= Ellesmere Port, T=Dunstable.
Last six are the actual serial number.

I'm sure most of this is also in the technical spec section as well.

And I've just realised that everything I submitted is actually on the Club site under the technical section!! Should have known better really shouldn't I??

Still can't find what the supplementary code 856 means though?? Anyone got a clue??

As Bob hints, I expect too these designations fell by the wayside in August 1967, known confusingly as '68 model year cars and vans, and were I'd hazard only for internal and for parts identification purposes. There no longer being of course any HA Saloon cars by then, HAV/HAE were both replaced by chassis/vin numbers commencing with 92, the HB and earlier HCs using 93. HA Vans being at different times available 6, 8 and 10 cwt form.

According to other info on-site, conflicting with that quoted above, HAE was Standard/Base Spec. and HAV was Deluxe, though it's suspiciously like the later use on the HB of E for Ellesmere Port, and V for Luton (estates and GTs and perhaps other OHC models). HA Saloons were built in both places, vans probably were too and additionally at Dunstable, which might be where the D comes from, but apparently in the new post August '67 vin system the letter 'T' was used to denote Dunstable. Someone Who Knows might be along sometime who can make sense of it.

I related the info as presented from an original green Vauxhall Parts catalogue, so assumed it was correct.
It also seems to tie up with what is in our own Technical section.
