MOT Guidance issued by the Police
Coronavirus (COVID-19): MOTs for cars, vans and motorcycles due before 30 March 2020
What to do if your car, van or motorcycle’s MOT due date is up to and including 29 March 2020. From 30th March 2020, MOT due dates for cars, motorcycles and light vans will be extended by six months. This is being done to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
For more information, visit the link below.

Please note, there is separate guidance about what to do if your MOT due date is up to and including 29th March 2020. You can find this here: https://www.gov.uk/…/coronavirus-covid-19-mots-for-cars-van
You must NOT take your vehicle for its MOT if you or someone you live with have COVID-19 symptoms, or if you’re extremely vulnerable from COVID-19.
The symptoms are:
• a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
• a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
Find out what to do if you have these symptoms on the NHS website.

Just had a similar e mail from my local MOT guy, confirming that MOT's are being extended by six months.

If we are all indoors then most vehicles will, or should, be parked up anyway, except for vital journeys.

We've had a similar situation here in N Ireland for a few months for a different reason, insufficient safety testing of equipment, putting testers at risk. Someone hadn't checked the lifting equipment well enough and there were found to be serious defects in the majority of the ones in the DVLA Test centres (NI doesn't use private garages for testing). Testing was limited to taxis and cars being tested for the first time only.

50 or so new lifts are on urgent order from the original supplier in Germany, apparently to switch to another manufacturer's product would have resulted in extra costs and time delays to alter the testing lanes and bays.

Both our daily drivers are currently on a 4 month extension which now looks like it will be extended even further.
