It looks as though I am going to spend the day on the phone as you did yesterday Paul. I just hate that music they make you listen to. I think that they do it to dumb down your brain, they keep you on hold for so long that you are so relieved to talk to somebody when you get through, that you will accept any old quote just so you don't have to repeat the experience, Lol......

Norwich Union have just quoted me 1023.67. 250 excess, 60 excess on glass. Fully comp for drivers over 25, third party for drivers under 25, 1 named female driver aged 31. Been driving since 1992, with no claims or convictios at all. I did not have any No Claims Bonus to use. Full break-down cover anywhere in the U.k. including recovery to any address in the british isles.

Not bad considering, though I will keep trying.

Tried those people John, they will insure it (at last) but want £321.39 for it, limited to 6000 miels a year, £400 excess.

seems either my job is a risk (planner) and or my postcode is a risk (CV10) they must assume i am in the middle of scummy Coventry when in fact i am 10 miles away form the city? Either way its still far to high. I might as well bye an old astra 2litre and drive that like a plank.. and save some pennies!!

I have spoken to the owner and offically pulle dout of the purchase because this insurance issue is a nightmare....

thansk for sall the ideas and numbers people, but I think i will have to move or change jobs first before i go Modded car

Paul,

Maybe you should now talk to Clara and get back the HA. Save yourself a packet and as you say the car is worth the dosh that you spend and also because you have pulled out of the sale of the gt thing, it's also worth the money that you will save.

Ian, as much as I love vivas (it was really my prompting that got Paul to look at them really originally iirc), if they're gonna cause this much hassle over insurance than maybe it isn't worth the hassle?

I mean, a classic is meant ot be both a) cheap to run/insure and b) fun, if insewerance is so much hassle then it negates the point (imo) of having the Viva in the first place.

As it is, Paul's backed out of getting the HB.

I just don't think the hassle in the end is worth it.

I do truly understand how you feel and I've been there before only with 2 different clubs rather than insurance companies. I was not happy when I gave the cars up and that is one of the reasons that I got a viva. Since then I have spent money that I probably could have spent more wisely else-where, but I missed the enjoyment of a classic car and the friendlyness of being involved with a club, even though I found myself in the middle of a fight between 2 different clubs. When the viva clubs thing started to split earlier this year, I thought oh no hear we go again, but lickily it has not been that way. I am a member of both this club and the drivers club and proud to be, as the car, the enjoyment of it and the friendships I have built up mean more to me than what it costs financially.. As you know I have had health problems, but I have never in my life felt as though I belonged anywhere more than with the viva clubs and I believe that the car is responsorble for the messages of good will that I recieved. I know that a drive for independence has been worrying trying to get the drivers etc, but we are there and because of the car and the people involved, we will be making a difference to somebodys life. These are just some of the benifits that owning a Viva has given to me, which is why I believe that the car I will be buying is worth every penny of the 2000 pounds it is costing to buy, the 1000 pound a year it will cost me to insure and why as it would have cost me 400 pounds to bring the car down from Scotland on a trailor, after taking out expenses for a drive for independence, the remainder of the 400 pounds will also be going to guide dogs.

Money is tight I know, but for me the things I have got from the expence of owning a viva could not be bought and that is why I now cosider myself a richer man. Less money, but more importantly more friends and more support. Please believe that I mean no offence by writing this, it is just the way I see things and if you had not of encouraged Paul to look at Viva's, then that is at least 2 friends that I would not have in my life now. Please Please don't go or be put off Viva's, the club etc would not be the same without you and I for one believe that this would be a terrible shame.

Chaucer insurance called me! and offered me to insure the replica GT for £91 a year

Seems they have a specialist car insurance BOD who was on holiday yesterday and the day before, (so obviously the muppets were in charge), the good news is he is an ex Brabham, HPF and spirtshatch owner (whos gone to the dark side Ford Capri's) and he understands what the car is....

20 minutes later I have a quote of £91 for 4000 miles a year me as only driver, none of this *Bleep* about no night time driving etc.... :D :D

Only one thing to sort out is some paperwork from the popel that did the "conversion" once thats sorted I am clear to by the car at last ....

So strange how a day makes a change... and just for good luck I called a few of the muppets back (on the work phone) and they were all, "oh sorry sir, maybe we can match that", how when the day before you were almost accusing me of mass murder by attempting to own it.... LOL

Insurance companies, got to love them. 8)
