Travel taxation - petition

I've been made aware of this petition by a member.

The idea of tracking every vehicle at all times is sinister and wrong. Road pricing is already here with the high level of taxation on fuel. The more you travel - the more tax you pay.

It will be an unfair tax on those who live apart from families and poorer people who will not be able to afford the high monthly costs.

Please Mr Blair - forget about road pricing and concentrate on improving our roads to reduce congestion.

I have to say I am whole heartdly in favour of this idea, keep road tax, scrap road pricing.

The issue to me however is not the road tax funds, nor the collection of tax via the ammount of miles you drive, its the lack of investment in our roads that is at the beef of my issue, I am sick to death of driving down roads that are little better than a mud track covered in tarmac, uneven, noisy and bad for my car.

Further to Clara link, there is another petion that is deeply routed in the Viva community, the sillyness of road tax exemption!

As the petition says :

Currently cars have to have been constructed before a set date - the 1st January 1973 to be eligible for historic car tax exemption. We the undersigned would like the date to be move as it has been fixed for a number of years. A number of cars which were built in British factories are becoming few and far between and would like the Government to help preserve these cars by offering and extension on the current exemption date.
