How did you extend your dash panel bit out of interest?

Thought I'd better update the thread.. (shamelessly copied from the DSG forum!)

Finally got around to starting the exhaust system, its tack welded upto just before the rear axle. I have made mounts for the two oval boxes, just need to make some for the rear silencers, make the up and over the axle pipes and weld in the lambda bosses and then weld it all up and the exhaust is done!

At last the exhaust is all tacked together and just needs to be TIG welded up but that will probably be after the new fuel tank is made.
One of my biggest potential problems was how to get the two back boxes/tail pipes parallel and the right distance apart, I did start off by measuring up against the rear chassis rails only to find that Vauxhall decided it was a good idea to position the LH side rail around 40mm further from the centre of the car than the RH side! So I ended up making a simple jig to set the silencers parallel and then used the original number plate fixing holes to gain the centre line.

Looks great Martin. What tank are you using, 12 gallon or custom made? Will the filler pipe clear the rear box OK?

Going to make an alloy custom tank with around 14 gal capacity (or bigger if I can make it fit), the filler pipe will need a custom replacement too.

Amazing work.
That exhaust is a work of art.
Also noticed you put some "weight" onto the rear axle to help figure out your clearance,
I made up an exhaust once and didn't take that into account, very frustrating.
Just one more turn should do it....

Well spotted, I wound the spring platforms right down so that I could push the axle up as far as it would go and check clearance at all heights... It clears just fine at any height.

Hi,
amazing car! I have some question about your fantastic wheels - which offset and width they have? I fit Ford 2.9 V6 (not Cossy :( ) in my Viva HC Coupe and want to change original wheels too. Your car has the same suspension as mine? And which width have your adapters for brake disks (it take part of offset)?
Thanks.

My car has similar suspension on the front but has a Mustang rear axle, fronts are 7.5x16" and the rears are 9x17, I'd have to measure the offsets.

The bells for the two piece discs are 8mm thick.

Beautiful exhaust work looks a little more complicated than what i was planning for mine!

custom work like that is all about patience and it looks like you have plenty of it, hopefully i can have the same amount

nice work!
