If you go for anything other than another Viva engine the brakes will need upgrading and possibly the back axle depending on what power you want to put through it. The crossflow as far as I know lines up pretty much with mounting points etc.

I am leaning more to keeping it standard, if I cant fix this engine I will try to get another 1159cc engine
Its got to be something simple I am now more convinced its the ignition
going to buy another set of points and condenser the ones I bought could be faulty as well
If that fails I will try to get another dissy and coil
I feel thats where the problem is.
still have to replace my gearbox though
As soon as I can find a supplier of the points and condencer I will get them ordered

When i went hunting for my crossflow it didnt take long to find one- £120 but i stripped it anyway and whacked some new main bearings in it. just keep looking - check out everywhere- not just egay

Gearbox was £25 - easy enough to find.

If you stick with just the standard 4sp escort box as I did then it does slot in very easy. and the gear box support on the viva lines up exactly with the escort mount but you need to make a simple spacer.

Plus I ended up having to grind a 3 " slot out of the fire wall lip - as I mounted the engine as far back as possible and then tried to fit my posh alloy rocker cover...

Mines only probably about 90-95 bhp- its a 1660 with a escort sport cam.

They are so easy to get all parts for including electronic dizzys and all sorts of upgrade bits.

Main thing for me was it looks the part and was an easy cheap swap, plus its not going to strain the axle.

It sounds lovely too- especially when i floor it and the secondry on the weber carb opens 8)

I am going to try my best to keep the 1159 engine but if not I am going for a kent I know these engines inside out
I am going to do my best to sort the engine out, but I must confess that the kent engine is my favorite only because its so simple to work on and has always been bullet proof
But saying all that I want to keep my viva original-ish
I am changing to disc I have bought a new servo master cylinder and complete front disc setup just waiting for are parts co-ordinator to see if he has the missing parts otherwise I will ask on the "parts wanted " link
