Viva gearbox's are made out of old matchsticks and 70s Beano annuals. There are ways round that though :D

Axle wise, i'm not too sure but i wouldn't want to launch hard with more than 100hp. Lets not forget though that it's torque that breaks stuff not really the HP.

If we were talking N/A tunning I would still ask the same question, simple reason is the OHV gearbox and axle are not upto dealing with much power/torque. The axle is probably good for 100bhp, as House says, but thats depending on how its driven, if you want to take the Viva down the strip, the axle wont last long, as you say a swap to an OHC axle is better. Buy a modern car with more power? No thanks, wheres the fun in that!! I hope you do buildthis engine, interested to see how it turns out.

if i build it, it won't be for drag racing. it will just be to liven it up a bit for normal use. and keep it in the cheaper/ under 1500cc tax bracket. i'm eyeing up other sub 1500cc swaps as well thou.
if i wanted to build the fastest viva i could, for say, a 2grand modifications budget, i'd do something similar to one of my other cars

Heres an idea then, sub 1500, endless tunning kit available, fit an 'A' series, along with midget/sprite gearbox.

I say build it....go for it....you never know what it will be like till its built.
I am a bit against the ideas of putting alien engines into the cars....if we can make them work better by developing things within the club, then that would be better....look what the Stag club has done over the years...that engine was a complete dog.....now, with mods developed by the club, and help outside, they have made it reliable.
If we continue to keep swopping in pinto's red tops etc etc....we will have hardly any cars with the original lumps in, except mint show cars that go nowhere or museum pieces.

Build it...see what it is like....if it needs beefing up, so be it. Lets see what CAN be done rather then what cant.

[quote]This £300 will become £600 and your 80bhp will be 65bhp if your lucky ... you fail to see the benefit in internal work and seem hell bent on the barry boy approach of bolting things on in some vain attempt to make things work. :new2_shrug:

what makes you think i fail to see the benefits of internal work? all iv'e said is turboing, imo, is more cost effective tunning. turboing and then upgrading everything else will give even better results.

barry boy bolt on? wtf. there are plenty of bolt on upgrades for any engine that work. air filter, exhaust, carbs, manifolds, etc. would you dissmiss them as well?

really. you have a lot to learn. :goodluck:

We're not having a go honestly....Mr B's a pussycat really...
I'm looking forward to it to be honest...i'd like to see one built and working...i've seen one on youtube but using the Opel 1200 engine and not driveable as turbo was sticking about 2 foot in the air!
