I used one of those online parts finder things once that send an email to car breakers all over the UK. I got a call back from one yard owner who told me he had a rare Viva turbo in for breaking and it had all the bits i wanted on it.

So there you go, Vivas CAN be turbo'd because you could buy them new like it in the 70s when turbos were all the rage.

Wish i'd kept his number now. He sounded the type who could educate anyone about anything.

Right, a bit of an update on this project. After a few months of not being able to work on the firenza as i have been living 160 miles away (not really and excuse I know  ) but as of next weekend its coming to live with me at my new place in Rutland.

So far I have found an engine, stripped it down and cleaned all the parts, after speaking to Paul the parts guy worked out it had low comp pistons in it which was nice and handy.

I've ordered new interals for everything and considering getting the cam midly tuned but think I will run it to begin with on a stock cam as its going to be complicated getting the turbo to work and valves all worked together unless somebody clever can work out what I need to tell a cam company to get it all to work as my maths skills at this sort of thing is rubbish.

I cleaned out the engine and painted inside the block and outside the engine is going cadburys purple inside and orange engine bay so should stand out.

As for the turbo, I am now ditching the small 1.4 turbo off a diesel and going for a Mitsubishi GTO turbo which is water cooled and oil cooled, nothing big but designed for a petrol turbo rather than a diesel turbo.

Carb is at the momment a single 45 but thuinking might be easier to use a mini turbo carb but not fully decided yet.

Crankshaft will soon be off to get balance,

Head has come back with a slight skim to even stuff up and pushrods all lapped in with new valve stems and some nice machining on the valves, considering going for a quick port and polish too.

Gearbox wise is still going type 9 but now modifying a old english 1300 axle to take viva suspension which might me lowered a bit for handleing but not too low..

Interior is getting a revamp with possibly a red carpet and some corbeau seat and a showcage put in but not convinced by the cage yet.

Rims are Slotmags and might have a full set coming up for sale too soon

Not decided on exhaust exit either yet, so any ideas bearing in mind its going to be able 2 in bore...

Pictures soon

You painted inside the engine block???!!! Wont the head skim raise the compression ratio again? Other wise sounds like fun!

Yeah I got some stuff from ricardos that they use for the engines. A red substance, not sure what it was. Yes the skim will but it was so minimal that it won't make much of a differance
