The parts from Retroford fit a treat, really are good quality too! the water rail is going to be a must as you can see on the attached picture.

I will continue to update this thread until the job is done and complete, to aid anybody else who would like to make the same conversion.

these pictures are just to show zetec engine and type 9 box mating.

Items purchased so far:-
Zetec 2.0 (Blacktop)
Type 9 Gearbox
type 9 standard sierra bellhousing and clutch fork + thrust bearing
Pinto clutch cover, plate (1.6/2.0 capri/sierra)
2.0 zetec redrilled flywheel - to except pinto clutch
type 9/capri/sierra spigot bearing
Retroford rear bowled sump
Retroford Dirt cover - between engine and bellhousing

Items that need to be addressed :-
Water Rail - to allow enough clearance between rear of engine and bulkhead (see previous image)
Engine mounts - a DIY kit is available from Retroford - possibly not the right solution
Gearbox mounting - yet to be addressed
Started Motor - concerned about space due to crossmember support legs

More to come.......

I should have metioned, most people don't use the 2.0ltr Zetec flywheel. Instead they use the 1.8 zetec item, which is also lighter, with the zetec clutch unit and just replace the friction plate with a CHV one with has the right splins (I think).

Theres lots of intresting sites out there with good info but some are conflicting.

This is a good one...

You've prob alread seen it.

I be watching with intrest how you get along, wish I had gone the Zetec route really.

Yeah I did consider the lightened flywheel, but not intending on using the car for any racing, thought about keeping it pretty standard for now as its quite an upgrade from the 1256.
Maybe mod the engine in the future if I get bored - saves me something to tinker with when the projects done.

Had not seen that site before, useful stuff.

cheers

Couple more pics.

Looks tiny in the engine bay!
gearbox seems to fit under - so far looks as if there will be no need to cut the tunnel, except for gear stick hole, as this will be slightly further back, but if I remember rightly, with my sitting position this will be a good thing for me, may have to use a short-shifter though.

I forgot to ask, have you checked your thrust bearing to clutch gap?

Not sure if its the same for your engine gearbox combo but with the Pinto and Mt75 box the distance between the clutch and thrust bearing is to great so I had to make up a part to extend the thrust bearing by around 16mm.

If you do run into this problem Burton do an extended bearing for over £50!

The easiest way would be to get a second clutch fork, cut the section out that the bearing sits in (at what ever hight you require) and weld it onto your existing clutch fork.

I didn't have time to do this on mine as I only found out at the last minute so had to make an extension out of what ever I could find. Just thought I'd say to stop you having the same problem.

I tried a type 9 on the back of a crossflow and it wouldn't sling under the tunnel in my HB- maybe HBs have less room then HC's?

Anyway- its looking great- nice and clean. :)

Thats going to make a really nice car!

Do you know about the gearstick mod to bring the stick closer to the correct position? It involves alloy welding but I can show you pics if you like.

Alex, youre right. The HB has far less room than the HC, I though they were the same until I tried to fit an XE to my HB, wasnt as easy as it was with my old HC. The crossmember seems to be about 3" closer to the bulkhead, engine swaps are more straightforward on a HC.

That engine looks right at home in there, have you seen the BDA type covers you can get for these? that would confuse people!!
