1971/72 2.0 Engine Modification's, Upgrades

Postby conor218 » Sat Jul 30, 2011 2:10 am

Hi
I live In Calgary, Alberta and have just purchased a Firenza 2000 SL from Ontario ( 2 door Sedan HC Viva in England ) they where Imported in 1971 and 72, see my post In Hello for more Info on that....
Just wondering what Is out there to hot up a 2.0 engine, thinking of doing some classic rallying with It over here.. Or should I just drop in a modern lump for the convienance of spares ??????
Look forward to any advice.

Hi Mark,
there is plenty you can do ...but the biggest problem is that most parts are over here and you are over there !!.I should add that some parts are fairly rare.
1, lighten and balance bottom end.
2, big valve head, gas flow passages.
3, twin DCOE's, 40's minimum!, on appropriate manifold...rare but do crop up on ebay!!.
4, tubular exhaust manifold.
5, uprated cam.
6, electric fuel pump.
Well you did ask !!!!.
Cheers Tony. :goodluck:

Hello Mark,

It's a pity you are so far away - there's a Blydenstein Stage I cylinder head, purchased it from Magards in 1976, in the '72 Firenza2000SL that's been sitting on my drive for several years. I'd be happy to let you have it for a consideration, along with the original head. But it's in west London (England, not Ontario!).

What condition is your Firenza?

Best wishes,

David

Hi
I was thinking of getting stuff shipped to my sisters house In Luton and then she could box it all up and send it by ship maybe, just thinking if that would be an affordable option ??? for stuff like heads/carbs/manifolds/panels....there's a few over here In scrap yards so original spares might not be a problem, Its the upgrades and stuff that has rotted/perished that would have to come from England.
Can you PM me pics of the stage 1 head and price.
Thanks

Wheels with a 4 inch stud might be an Issue as well, I think minilites has a US dealers...

Does the 72 2.0 have the same front suspension and axle as a 1800 or 2300...

Would also love to ditch the auto box it has and Install a standard, would a 1800 or 2300 bolt onto the 2.0 unit...

all help and advice Is greatly appreciated.
thanks

If the cars are the same spec as here, the 1800/2000/2300 axle suspension will be the same, diff ratio might be different. A manual box from the 1800/2300 should bolt straight onto the 2000 engine. Might have to change the gearbox mounting and prop for manual versions, and the pedal box.

Hello again Mark,

re your query about the cylinder head; my Firenza 2000SL Auto is complete - the Blydenstein Stage I head is still in place.

However, the car has been peacefully rusting away on my driveway for several years and is really only suitable as a donor car. I'd prefer to have someone trailer it away, which unfortunately isn't much use to you!

Best wishes,

David

My company make full stainless exhaust manifolds and systems for the car if that helps!

No prob's.
I tried my hardest to get the Stage 1 head from him, but he stuck to his guns and wants it to go with the complete car. Good luck with the Firenza purchase.
