MX5 (Miata) engine swap

Postby jpsmit » Thu Aug 04, 2011 3:19 am

anyone tried it in an HB? (Viva GT) I have the original engine and I have some parts but, I can buy a Miata drive train with a 5 speed cheap - I know it is a taller engine but not much else.

thoughts? (or other alternatives - in North America)

thanks all

PS I'm just thinking out loud on all this so, on the mechanical forum your will see questions about rebuilding the existing engine.

It's been a passing thought but I haven't looked into it.

I think Retro Cars Magazine recently did a running series on sticking an MX5 engine in a Herald, which I know is a fairly common swap. Maybe to try to find those mags or coverage of it online. I'm sure a couple have been done on www.retro-rides.org so maybe have a look there.
