Fitting a 2.0 to a hc

Postby steve_1984 » Tue Jan 03, 2012 10:09 pm

Do the carlton/ cavalier engine with a carlton box fit ok in a hc?

Or is a manta gte engine/box an easier option?

Have been thinking of going down this route instead of going for a 20xe.

Any info on the convesion would be useful. :D

The HC bay takes v8;s and is big enough for most 4 cylinder blocks - so in reality any combination is possible - just need a decent engine / box set up and way to go :D Cant see any reason why a Carlton engine / box would not be any good as a converrsion.
Obviously helps if you are good at fabrication and modding things 8)
May also need to make tunnel / bulkhead mods .
Im currently fitting a Suzuki Baleno 1600 16 valve fuel injected engine to my firenza - mated to a Suzuki SJ413 5 speed box / purpose prop then to a Magnum 1800 axle .
Luckily i bought the whole Baleno for the conversion as i had to cut out the drivers bulkhead in order to use the Baleno servo / master and clutch ( as well as complete pedal box) The Inlet manifold wouldnt allow the use of original servo ( no damn room) .
I would advise you get a complete donor car as you never know what you might need to complete the conversion.

It wouldnt be much of a hassle at all, altho finding a carlton engine and box may be a little more difficult than you think. I didnt realise till i bought my carlton just how few are kicking about! The ohc manta engine and boxes are getting harder to find now as well. The manta GTE (cih) engine and box has been done by a member already i think, might be worth looking through the posts to find out who! :D

I know of someone that has a manta gte engine and box but I'm more interested in a cav/ carlton 2.0 8v.

I'll have a look and see if I can find the thread.

My brother is currently fitting a 2.0 8v and box from a mk1 cavalier so its possible.

Had to make his own mounts though,

I know of someone that may be selling a 2.3 with a big valve head as he wants to fit a redtop, but if he is selling the engine gearbox and back axle (from a hb) what else will I need to put in my HC?

Not even sure if the back axle can be used

i done a red top in to a hc recently it was a lot off work and the parts are getting harder to get and costing more money

if your staying true to vauxhall a red top is the way to go

but if not an sr20det from a nissan s14 is a far far easier conversion i had mine in my hb in 1/3 the time
