Looking good. I love hearing other peoples experiences when building up the front end, my oun car took ages. I'm a fan of bolt on wings. Slight tweaks are easier to rectify and you can unbolt them for access. I intend to do a bit of engine bay work sometime in the future and I'll be unbolting the wings rather than trying to proctect them from dropped tools, zips on coats and general clumbsiness.

Picked up my wings at the weekend after using someone else to blast them, well it seems his 20 years in the trade hadnt taught him that blasting creates heat and we all know what heat does with steel, i hadnt noticed to be honest it was the painter who told me, however its not all bad a little wobbly which will now need doggy, b*ll*cks.

Today ive been mainly messing with the doors

I thought it would be a good idea to fit the doors that i was planning to use before fitting the wings, just aswel as the nearside wouldnt fit at the hinge, just a little tweak sorted that out, but after refitting the wing it appeared to have a larger gap than the previous door, grrrrr.

On and off with the wings again i managed to find an area at the wing front top where i could remove a few mill to allow it to close the gap.
On to the next problem, the wing support at the door have at some time been removed from the wing itself with the mount lip bashed flat, ive not wanted to try and refit these as i think it would be a can of worms, so they are left intact on the car, when the wing is fitted it stands proud off the door so a bit more tweaking.

A thin slit and reposition and weld sorted that problem

back on with the wing

At this stage i think i will weld the wings on as i really cant see any advantage for bolting, im not planning to sell so done right they can stay on :D

I hadnt noticed before the door window channel area is slightly untrue, thought at first my door was bent.

I need to look at the wing bottom next as i have some corrosion there as the whole sill area has been rebuilt im aware the wing needs some support or spacing to align with the sill shape aswel.

Another day todging around, its never ending, :| chopped out the lower wing area which had some rot on it.

Screwed together first and lined up with sill

then strip again and weld the sucker up

Next bit was the same wing but the front edge where it meets the front panel, the steel had suffered from rust and i was hoping to just fill it with the mig, but when i tryed it was like paper.

chop it out and fit a new section

thats about it for this wing, retry fitment and them onto the other wing that needs the lower sill area doing aswel.

Your doing a good job. I had to do lots of work like this on the Firenza. I had to slit and reweld the wings to make them line up with the doors.

Time consuming stuff. :D

But well worth the effort. It already looks fantastic! :respekt:

I can't wait to have my own workshop so I can get stuck in to the bodywork on my burgeoning collection of HBs
